Guys…… I’ve gone from being quite happy when my phone had the update for version 12 and now, just really peeved off.
Had the update option on my phone this morning. So i plugged it into NSU and tried updating it that way, no joy, phone software was up to date. So went back to the handset and updated it OTA. Downloaded… Installed… job done, v12, i thought great!!
One big glitch with it, suddenly i have no way at all of accessing WLAN, i dont have the option in the list in Connectivity anymore and because its not there i cannot search for any WIFI points or connect. Also all my current internet destinations where wiped from phone completely….. really not happy!! I’ve managed to go on Orange website and send internet settings back to phone via text, but as for WLAN, its like its never existed on the phone at all.
Has anyone else had this problem? Has anyone solved this problem? I was thinking of doing a Backup and a full reset, but surely if i put the backup data back on, the problem causing the NO WLAN will be be re-installed. I feel like i’ve hit a brick wall!!
I’ve had an email from Orange today asking me to express my intrest in the iPhone 3GS which will be out on Orange in the next couple of months……… i am VERY tempted.
Anyone out there help me??
Hi Andy,
I was literally just reading about this problem! So no you are not alone.
Have a look here

I actually got bored waiting for V12 about 2 days ago, so changed my model code to generic Euro and used NSU to install V12. My wifi and everything worked fine.
To anyone else thinking of installing V12 onto their UK N97, I would say “DON’T!”.
It really does seem to fix nothing, some howling errors are still there from V11 (and earlier), and the number of people with the wifi problem seems excessive!
Ok, i think i’m sorted….. thanks for the link Tank.
I did a back up of the entire phone via NPS because i have no memory card at the moment.
I then did a HARD reset by first switching off the phone and then whilst holding down CAPS-SPACE-DELETE-POWER BUTTON simultaneously turned it back on again. As expected, everything had gone, full restore (as if out of the box). The WiFi /WLAN wizard was back, whooo hoo!!
I then reinstalled what i had on the Backup via NPC. Everything installed fine, phone rebooted etc. Everything back……. i was back to the problem again….. No WiFi at all whatsoever.
AGAIN……. I performed ANOTHER HARD RESET.
Back to normal…….. Only this time when i restored the backup…… I DESELECTED the Phone Memory and the Settings options….. hoping that whatever was causing the WLAN difficulties was in there and would not be installed back on to the handset. All i reinstalled was Messages – Calender – Contacts – Bookmarks – Mass Memory……. I think thats everything.
Phone rebooted once again…… AT LAST…. so far so good. WLAN Wizard still there and successfully connected. Okay…. I had to juggle around with it and change my settings / homescreen etc round a bit, but thats no biggy….. I did also have to re-install N-Gage App…. Maps 3.1 etc which popped up in the Software Updater, obviously coz these automatically saved themselves onto the phone memory which i avoided reinstalling. Again, no biggy, am used to having phone memory swallowed up, they should really give you the option. Grrrr!!
So far so good….. I would advise anyone who is thinkin of updating to v12 to avoid it at all costs….. unless you’ve read the discussion threads and are prepared backup wise. Its not nice having a phone which was far better prior to an update……. stick with v11, much better…. i would go back if i could…. PLEASE LET v20 be the saviour of everyones problems.
Andy
the problem of restoring stuff isn’t exclusive to the N97 i had that problem on my N95 and recently encountered it on somebody else’s E71.
i managed to delete everything of the phone memory and reinstall all apps and anything else onto the mass memory then did a hard reset because lifecasting was pissing me off and managed to claw back just over 50MB of phone memory which i currently have 47.4MB left
